Donations at Work in Summer 2009
Here is a wonderful photograph from the Summer 2009 trip to deliver donations. This picture documents your cash donations at work.
Cash donations actually do double duty….since these items are much cheaper to purchase through wholesale contacts in Guatemala, and no shipping, storage, or customs duty is paid.
This August, the students at several schools were treated with a visit from a new supporting donor, Brazoria County Commissioner, Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh, Douglas’s mother. She toured the small campuses delivering supplies and spending time with the teachers and students. As you can see from the picture, there is no language barrier when loving children are involved! Mary Ruth came back after a week, and immediately began conversations with her contacts and friends about how to fund raise, educate, and take action toward reaching our educational goals for these children.
“Seeing is believing”, she remarked. I wish I could take every American child to Guatemala for just one day…it would transform their perspectives and values forever.” She especially enjoyed the classes in sewing, hygiene, and agriculture.
“Not only are there children getting their academics through the donated workbooks, but they are gaining life skills that they will use forever. I wonder how students in the USA would treat their schools if they had to sweep, mop, and paint them!”
Lots of hugs, smiles, and crayons. Add a few paper plates, and we had a herd of elephants in the room. “I’ve never seen kids be so happy with so little”, she remarked.
Thank you for your visit, and your support, Mary Ruth!
